He, She, They, We!

This is who my kid is (he). This is who I am (she). This is who our community is (they). We are all family (we)!

Our musical tastes are eclectic!

Day 13—I am thankful that our house is full of music.  As most of you know—we listen to a lot of music!  We sing.  We dance.  We listen to Pandora, we listen to music on the TV, we listen to music ALL THE TIME.  For the first year that K was home, we didn’t watch TV in our house, but we always had music on!  Not only that, there is no shame in him shaking his booty in public either.  We also like to dance a lil bit while drawing or coloring!  I am thankful that we love music and ain’t afraid to show it!

K’s Musical Love Affair

So lately, K has been asking to listen to music by Talib Kweli!  How can I deny it?  I can’t.  I support an eclectic taste in music and let’s just say it—he has years and years to like sell out, poppy rap/wannabe hip-hop, so I might as well lace him to the real!  No, really, I have a job to do as his only parent and one of them is to expose him to the REAL!  I have a foundation of music to handle right now and I plan on doing JUST THAT!

This morning, we listened to “This Means You” with Hi-Tek, Mos Def and Talib Kweli.  I have to say, it’s was very proud moment when K told me to turn the music down at second #51, he did the wikky wick (scratching of the records sound) and knew the lyrics (if you have the song—go there and check it out—start at second 50 and listen through 55) and he could almost sing the whole hook!

It’s a small accomplishment, but, *pat on the back* Good job Mama! If I do say so myself!
